ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The technology developed and used by Sorcia is an innovative technology and is committed to the welfare and development of local communities near the lithium production areas. Generally, salt flats are located in arid areas, where water consumption is not only a concern for the authorities, but also for the inhabitants of these territories. In the future, the excessive use of water will eventually affect the mining companies exploiting this mineral.
As important as it is to produce huge quantities of carbonate, hydroxide and lithium metal to meet international demand, it is important to produce it in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, transforming the industry as we know it today. Sorcia’s technology will produce battery grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide in Chile and Argentina; considerably decreasing the environmental damage caused by traditional evaporation processes. Sorcias technology has a high efficiency in separating lithium chloride from brines, re-injecting 90% of the brine extracted from the salt flats. Sorcias lithium extraction process is the most environmentally friendly technology, with the lowest operating cost and the fastest production cycle.
USES AND PRESENCE OF LITHIUM
a new path
Lithium has numerous applications, from lubricating grease and glass manufacturing to rechargeable batteries that power many portable tools, mobile electronic devices and electric vehicles, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, among others. Recent studies have shown that demand for lithium is expected to increase by 73% by 2025, as electric vehicles become more viable and more countries impose restrictions on gasoline- and diesel-powered cars.
new ways of transportation
As of 2018, the transportation sector was responsible for almost one third of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on the planet, which is why one of the fundamental axes of decarbonization in order to reduce CO2 levels in the short term is precisely the change of fuel to a clean fuel.
